The Black Cat
A dark bar that had to stay dark. The room, the pours, and the patio, photographed the way a guest actually sees them.
The brief
The Black Cat’s room is the brand: warm shelves, low light, hard afternoon shadows. The easy mistake is to light it into a daytime catalog. The brief was the opposite: keep the dark, keep the mood, and let the frames run grainy and filmic, a nostalgic look that matches the room, while still holding detail in the bottles and the pours.
How the shoot ran
Shot in the room’s own light with minimal fill, and graded to that filmic feel rather than cleaned up after. The bar builds were photographed in the bartenders’ hands, garnish work, jigger pours, wine from height, rather than staged on an empty counter, so the set reads like a night at the bar instead of a product sheet.
